In March 2015, Sonali Kolhatkar was profiled by Scripps College students for a school project called Women Who Rock: Making Scenes, Building Communities.
Sonali Kolhatkar
“Sonali Kolhatkar is the founder, host, and executive producer of Uprising Radio, a non-profit, listener sponsored, daily show that connects global issues with local issues. Through Uprising, Sonali hopes to motivate listeners to become active in their communities. KPFK, Uprising’s platform in Los Angeles, describes the show as a “daily digest of independent news analysis, investigation, education, artistic expression, activism in the public interest”.
We, Cassidy Villeneuve and Xitlally Sanchez, conducted an interview with Sonali at her home while she was cooking and taking care of her son. We discussed Sonali’s experience in radio and television news broadcasting, her involvement with the Afghan Women’s Mission, and her book titled Bleeding Afghanistan: Washington, Warlords, and the Propaganda of Silence co-authored with husband James Ingalls. The interview is part of our attempt to document her oral history and to get an insight into her daily life.”
