In 2000, Sonali Kolhatkar joined a small group of American activists to start the Afghan Women’s Mission, a solidarity non-profit organization that works in solidarity with the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA). Today Sonali continues as its co-Director. 

In 2021, Sonali Kolhatkar joined the Board of Directors of the Justice Action Center, an organization centering litigation and storytelling strategies to improve immigrants’ lives.
